VADAR
External X-Y-Z gantry. Excavates, lays blocks, places precast slabs, lintels and the roof.
Autonomous construction for essential infrastructure, from homes and apartment buildings to schools, hospitals and beyond.
RIAN is currently in research & development.
What takes conventional construction many months becomes a 48-hour automated build. Families move in sooner, capital is tied up for less time and communities can grow at the pace they need.
A RIAN Home V1 starts at $90,000, compared with more than $1.1 million for a typical Swiss new build of the same size. Lower cost opens home ownership to people who are priced out today.
The same budget buys more space, better materials, solar power and room to grow. Buyers and landlords get far more home for every dollar they invest.
Autonomous construction could one day prepare shelter on the Moon and Mars before people arrive. RIAN is developing the technology we will need for critical missions beyond Earth.
RIAN is based in Zug, Switzerland. Our long-term scope covers homes, schools, hospitals and the essential infrastructure communities need.
Precision, reliability and accountability, demonstrated through engineering, testing, inspection and long-term performance.
Affordability must never mean poor durability, expensive maintenance or unsafe structures.
Every design is built and tested at our headquarters and test facilities before it reaches a customer's site.
VADAR excavates a basement and bunker, lays every concrete block and places precast slabs, stairs, lintels and the roof. ANIKAN fits insulation, electrics, plumbing and ventilation on every floor. Scrub the timeline, jump to any phase or cut the building open by level.
Every level VADAR and ANIKAN build in the simulation above, from the protected shelter to the first floor. Choose a level to see its rooms.
VADAR works from outside the building. ANIKAN works inside it. The cradle and the cargo cart are the handover points, so each machine only does what it is best at.
External X-Y-Z gantry. Excavates, lays blocks, places precast slabs, lintels and the roof.
Rigid lock and anti-sway links. Lowers ANIKAN through the open roof onto the landing bay.
Interior robot. Electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fixtures and finishes, room by room.
Docks to ANIKAN's rear coupler and carries heavy items the arms should not hold.
A rigid 1.8 × 0.6 m body has a 1.90 m diagonal. Two 900 mm modules on a powered yaw joint cut that to 1.08 m, so ANIKAN snakes through.
These are the hypotheses our research and testing set out to prove. Every comparison includes the cost of machinery, energy, maintenance, transport and specialist support.
Automate repetitive, physically demanding work.
Move on-site work from months toward days.
Precise placement and optimised designs cut waste.
Recycled and local materials, where proven safe.
Reuse validated designs, components and processes.
Fewer wasted deliveries, less storage and downtime.
Spread equipment cost across many projects.
Measure and monitor to reduce defects and rework.
The construction envelope. A transportable Cartesian gantry that straddles the whole plot. It excavates, builds the walls block by block, sets heavy components and lowers ANIKAN into the building through the open roof.
Design targets from RIAN's machine specification. Final ratings are set by engineering validation and testing.
Surveys and marks out the plot, excavates basements and bunkers, then lays every concrete block course by course around door and window openings.
Swaps tools automatically to set precast slabs, stairs, lintels, roof panels and heavy fixtures such as tanks, tubs and plant.
Telescoping towers, screw-pile anchors and outriggers set up on uneven ground, then collapse into road-transport modules.
The interior builder. A 600 mm wide articulated robot with four arms that fits out the home room by room: wiring, plumbing, HVAC, insulation, fixtures and finishes.
Design targets from RIAN's machine specification. Final ratings are set by engineering validation and testing.
Runs electrical wiring to sockets and lights, installs plumbing and drain lines, and fits heating, ventilation and cooling.
Installs insulation, flooring, kitchens, bathrooms, doors and lighting, then paints walls and ceilings.
Two modules on a lockable yaw joint pass 800 mm doors, turn in small rooms and lock rigid for precise work.

Autonomous construction could one day prepare shelter on the Moon and Mars before people arrive. RIAN is developing the technology we will need for critical missions beyond Earth.
A sustained human presence on the Moon, and eventually Mars, depends on infrastructure that is ready before crews land: pressurised habitats, radiation shielding, landing pads, power and storage.
Conventional construction relies on large teams and long supply chains. Beyond Earth, both are scarce. Machines that can build safely and reliably with limited human intervention change what is possible.
Abrasive dust, extreme temperature swings, low gravity, vacuum or thin atmosphere, and communication delays of up to 20 minutes each way to Mars. A machine there has to plan, check its own work and recover from faults without waiting for instructions.
Materials will have to come largely from the site itself, using local regolith rather than cement shipped from Earth.
The capabilities we develop for homes on Earth are the same foundations: autonomous layout and deposition, component placement, self-inspection, error recovery and machines that set up on unprepared ground.
Every home we build and test at our headquarters and test facilities adds evidence about what works, what fails and where human help is still needed.
Our immediate priority remains better, more affordable infrastructure on Earth. Applications beyond Earth would need dedicated research, substantial adaptation and validation under extraterrestrial conditions, and we will be clear about what has and has not been proven.
Our broader ambition is to help develop the construction capabilities that could support humanity wherever it chooses to build.
RIAN is previewing reservations for its first customer homes and apartment blocks. A $5,000 refundable deposit will secure a build slot, with construction of customer projects planned for Q4 2027 to Q2 2028.
Before any customer build, each RIAN design is built and tested at our headquarters and test facilities. Positioning accuracy, material performance and every human intervention are measured so customer builds happen safely.
